Spring Break

March 18th, 2013 by Mommy

We officially celebrated our own spring break this year instead of tagging along with someone else’s break. It was nice to celebrate several spring breaks with different people when we didn’t have school constraints on us, but alas those days are over. We did a local activity everyday of the break and Mama enjoyed just spending time with her girls.

Playdate with friends! – We enjoyed playing with someone else’s toys for a morning and having lunch. The kids are getting old enough that they really play on their own. The littlest is having to learn to voice her opinion and keep up with the bigger kids. They are working it out for sure.

band

They have formed a band. Watch out! For a concert just contact their booking agent.

careerday

This might need to become a career option. It appears she has the personality to go with the instrument.

Swim Time – No photos from this event because Mama forgot the camera in the car. We swam in the heated indoor pool and loved it. We didn’t have to share the pool with anyone else and had a lifeguard to keep an eye on us. Emily enjoyed showing off some tricks for the lifeguard including sit diving. Emily figured out how to swim under Mama’s legs in the pool. Julia enjoyed freedom in the pool and being able to walk fairly deep into the pool. She would would play right at the point that it became too deep to keep her head above water and would bounce between the sides. It sure kept the lifeguard busy until he figured out that she was doing it on purpose and could get herself out of trouble.

Playdate at Grammy’s – Grammy watched the girls for a morning and Mama brought lunch back for everyone to enjoy. The girls were supposed to take care of Grammy while they were there, but they forgot their purpose once they got playing. They are only six and four though. We finished out the day with dress-up playtime. Always a good day when the princess dresses can come out.

Photo Day and Consignment Shopping – Emily had not gotten her six year old photo taken yet so we knocked that one off the list one morning and then hung out at a consignment sale and the mall until they were collapsing and ready for a nap.

Playdate at the Children’s Museum – We met friends at the Children’s Museum for some enjoyable playtime. The only thing that would have made the day better was if Daddy had been able to join us. The kids did all their favorite things!

beachvacation

Really it was a beach vacation. Getting four kids to look in one direction is still tough even though they are now older.

The puppet performance of the Ladybug and fish.

First Friend Sleepover – Our friends invited the girls over for a sleepover and then we met them at church the next morning. All four girls had a blast and they did get some sleep. They went to sleep around 10 and were up by 6 the next morning. That wake-up time might just be Julia’s fault. They just enjoyed playing with each other and toys. They are ready for the next sleepover, I guess it will be at our house.

sleepover

One of the best photos ever! These are the moments that really define childhood.

Sunday Afternoon Church Picnic – This activity just happened to fall during our spring break and worked out for a fun time to spend with friends. Some out-of-town friends came in to visit and everyone converged on a park to enjoy fellowship and a little catching up. All the girls church friends were able to make it and they all enjoyed a sunny time at the park. Of course our girls were the best dressed girls at the park, but despite being told what we were doing they wanted to dress in their finest for church. It didn’t seem to slow them down.

parkplay

Really not sure if they ware playing get the ball or get the Jeremy. Way to go Dads for keeping all the kids running on the field!

What Does The Mama Say?

March 8th, 2013 by Mommy

paperpath

Julia worked really hard making the paper trail around our house with all of the loose coloring sheets they have laying around. It reminded Mama of the Yellow Brick Road. After a while Mama asked if Julia would pick the paper up. Her answer to that request was, "but I laid it down for Jesus to walk on". What does the Mama say to that? I guess she is ready for Palm Sunday a few weeks early.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

March 1st, 2013 by Mommy

drseuss

Our Kindergartener celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday today. The instruction was to wear wacky clothes and hair. Emily chose her clothes, but they turned out more well accessorized than wacky. For her wacky hair we tried out several hairstyles last night and ended up with this variation. It was involved, but she vetoed the crazy Mama ideas. She seemed to enjoy Dr. Seuss’s birthday celebration although not many kids participated in the crazy clothes and no one else had a Seuss themed lunch.

cat

We sent a little girl to school and home came a cat. It was awesome to go through the pickup line and pick up the face painted cat.

hair

Our fun hairstyle. Please, no one mention to her that it is a cheerleader hairstyle. Her hair wasn’t quite long enough to get the pony tail on the tip-top of her head.

seusslunch

The themed lunch – a green egg (the color didn’t show up well in the photo), ham, colorful sprinkles in the apple sauce for a party theme, chocolate goldfish, hat themed fruit on a stick, and a pickle sign post for the places she’ll go.

homelunch

Why make one lunch when you can make two at the same time. Julia enjoyed her Seuss themed lunch too.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

January Birthday Weekend Getaway

February 26th, 2013 by Mommy

inthetunnel

We went to Gatlinburg to celebrate Emily’s birthday. Some of Emily’s favorite things include staying in hotels and swimming, and we were able to make both of these happen. The weather was amazing for January and we enjoyed being outside despite a few rain showers that moved through. In addition to swimming, we played putt-putt, visited the aquarium, rode the trolley, walked the strip, shopped, discovered our way through a mirror maze, and rode the skylift. Emily loved discovering that the hotel had hot chocolate and cookies every night. The trip was fun and it was a delight to share the time with Emily and Julia.

readytomakeasplash

Our little swimmers before they made their big leap in. The water was a bit cold so once we got out we didn’t want to get back in.

swimming

Daddy was a great sport and swam with the girls until Julia’s lips turned blue.

puttputtgirls

During the break in the rain shower we got a game of putt-putt in. The girls wanted us to take turns in the order we played. We only got one ball stuck and didn’t lose any of them. We consider this progress with our young golfers. The rules were treated as suggestions and more than once the hole was bracketed with feet to give a sense of success.

holeinone

Despite our rule bending both girls successfully made hole-in-ones all on their own. This is Julia celebrating her successful hole-in-one. Quite proud! She hit the ball without looking and was holding the putter backwards, but gravity and some good luck was in her favor on the hole. Emily was not to be out done and made a hole-in-one on a later hole.

puttputt

The six-year-old has some game and some attitude. Funny!

letsgo

This was how we traveled this weekend. When Julia got tired of walking we gave her a push. Not a bad plan because one afternoon she gave out and slept for over an hour while Emily kept exploring.

catfish

Emily’s first visit to the aquarium had a similar photo to this one, but the fish was bigger than she was. She has now grown longer than the fish!

dude

Dude!! We found Crush!

inafishbowl

The girls love the fish bowl and Emily still fits in there. I think the only reason they looked at the camera was that the fish swam away.

chairlift

While Julia napped Robby took Emily up to the top of the mountain on the skylift. Emily was so brave and the heights didn’t faze her in the least.

checkout

Checking out! Emily took charge of all of her and Julia’s clothes and special things. Mama loves the efficiency of giving the stuffed animals a ride on the backpack with a view.

icecreamdinner

What is a birthday without celebrating it with ice cream for dinner? We did offer other food later, but up to this point it was dinner. Yum! We had enough fun we might do this every year.

Emily Turns 6

February 25th, 2013 by Mommy

cake

Emily is officially more than a handful of years now. What a blessing our big girl has been in our lives. We are thankful and grateful for her. She was looking forward to this birthday a lot. We kept teasing her that she could have two years at five and then skip up to seven, but she wasn’t interested.

cupcake

Her first party of the day was at school. Her class sang to her and made her feel special. Then for lunch Mama ate with her. We shared blue iced cookies with her class. Then that evening we had a family party. She chose to eat Chinese in town for her birthday dinner. Then after dinner we opened gifts and had cupcakes. Her favorite gifts were a Merida dress-up dress and ballet classes.

Christmas and Cousin Photos

February 6th, 2013 by Mommy

four2sm

We had some cousin photos taken while we had two sets together. It had been almost four years since the last group photo. They did really well for being 9, 7, 5-3/4, and 4. They really enjoy being together, just not always sitting still together.
